Forward Madison FC Draws Chattanooga Red Wolves SC
July 13, 2019 - United Soccer League One (USL1)
Forward Madison FC News Release
Coming home from its longest road trip of the season, Forward Madison FC couldn't hold on in a 1-1 draw with Chattanooga Red Wolves in front of 4,442 at Breese Stevens Field on Saturday night. Despite an electric crowd and an early goal from FMFC captain Connor Tobin, the Flamingos conceded late, and left with just one point.
Early in the match, the Flamingos came ready to play by pressuring much more than normal and lead with strong runs from Christian Diaz and Minnesota loanee Abu Danladi, who routinely got by a much slower defense.
This lead to the goal, as Diaz and Danny Tenorio pushed hard down the left and eventually it was the Ecuadorian who fed Tobin off the corner for the opener in the 20th minute. The rest of the first half progressed in a similar fashion, as Red Wolves had few answers for the FMFC attack.
The second half told a different story, as Chattanooga began to dominate possession and find their noses ahead of the action. This resulted in the goal from Nicholas Amponsah as the replacement of Eamon Zayed with Vanjel Zguro changed the tenor of the visiting sides' progression, as the Red Wolves found more space to run through the defense.
The match finished in a disappointing result for the home side, as coach Daryl Shore called the result "points dropped" with his side unable to find their finishing touch late in the contest.
Up next for the 'Mingos is a home friendly against Leones Negros on Tuesday, July 16th, and the team from Guadalajara features Mexican legend Omar Bravo, who's slated to feature in the match. After that the team has a free weekend before Orlando City B visits July 27th, which have split this season's results with FMFC.
