Forward Madison hit the road again to battle USL League One league-leader, North Carolina FC, at WakeMed Soccer Park on Saturday, May 13th. The match kicked off just after 6pm CT.

The match started with a golden chance for the Flamingos, when Christian Chaney became open in the opposing box and fired a shot that went over the bar. FMFC kept the pressure on in the early part of the match, trying to find an early goal. That goal came in the 14th minute when Forward Madison gained possession in the middle of the pitch through Isidro Martinez, who launched a shot from outside the box that found the back of the net to give FMFC the 1-0 lead. NCFC put pressure on the FMFC defense after the goal, but Forward Madison goalkeeper Bernd Schipmann stood tall with a pair of big saves to keep the Flamingos in front going into half.

Forward Madison started the second half looking to double their lead on the road. After a flurry of NCFC attacking chances, Forward Madison was awarded a corner in the 68th minute. Martinez served in a perfect curving ball that found the head of FMFC defender Mitch Osmond for the goal, putting FMFC up 2-0. From there, Forward Madison focused on seeing the match out with strategic possession of the ball. North Carolina would fashion chances of their own, but the FMFC backline stood tall and saw out a 2-0 victory on the road.

Next up, Forward Madison will return home to Breese Stevens Field for a midweek match against Northern Colorado Hailstorm on Thursday, May 18th at 7pm CT.
