Forward Madison FC has signed 24-year-old goalkeeper Aidan Hogan, adding a second set of gloves to its 2021 roster. The Wisconsin native, who was on trial with the Flamingos in both 2020 and 2021, expressed his excitement to be playing in his home state.
"I remember first seeing this team getting started and I thought that would be really cool if one day I was playing for them," Hogan said. "Now that I have that chance, I'm going to try and make the most out of it."
Hogan's signing marks the second goalkeeper Forward Madison has signed to its 2021 roster. According to head coach Carl Craig, Hogan has made significant strides throughout preseason and, as a Wisconsinite, adds another local face to represent the state soccer community.
"Aidan is gaining experience and he's here to grow and improve as a footballer," Craig said. "Having another player from Wisconsin helps solidify the identity of the club. There are people here from all over the place, but at the end of the day, it's essential that we are represented by people from the state as well."
Hogan, who is from Kohler, had a standout career at The University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis, helping his team earn several conference championships and post-season appearances. Hogan is the winningest goalkeeper in St. Thomas history, with 51 career wins and 31 shutouts. Hogan also played with D.C. United U23s from 2018-19, as well as the Philadelphia Fury in 2019.
Hogan trained with Forward Madison in February of 2020, returning this year to earn a contract with the Flamingos. Hogan is Forward's second rostered goalkeeper, joining Phil Breno, and said the pair could push each other to improve as the season progresses.
"I think we have a really strong side this year, so our goal should definitely be the playoffs," Hogan said. "If we're going to be realistic with ourselves, we should be in the playoffs and we should be making a good run for the title."
Hogan's signing will be confirmed pending league and federation approval.
