Metairie, LA â Former New Orleans Zephyrs pitcher Tim Redding was named the Astros fifth starter on Thursday by Astros Manager Jimy Williams. Redding joins former Zephyrs Roy Oswalt and Wade Miller in the Houston rotation along with Roger Clemens and Andy Pettitte.

Redding's ERA for the final three months of the season was 3.36, but he was only 6-6 from July 1 through the end of the year as he was victimized by the second-lowest run support in the league.

The 6-2, 210-pound Tucson, Ariz. native posted a .511 slugging pct. with 23 doubles, 11 home runs and 50 runs batted in last season. He was successful in 22 of his 28 stolen base attempts.
The left-handed hitting Porter also appeared in 24 games for the Astros last season, batting .188. He was Houston's 17th round draft choice in June of 1998 out of the University of Arizona. He has a career .275 (310x1129) average with the Zephyrs with 24 home runs and 121 RBI in 337 games. He ranks first in New Orleans Zephyrs history in stolen bases (61) and strikeouts (312), second in triples (12) and tied for second in doubles (67), fourth in hits (310), at-bats (1129), games played (337) and runs scored (159), seventh in walks (102) and ninth in RBI (121).
