Memphis Xplorers News Release
Southaven, MS- The Memphis Xplorers of the af2 have been assigned OL/DL Philip Perry by the af2 league office. Perry was a Spartan at San Jose State University, where he was on the Bronco Nagurski Watch List during his senior year.
Perry was a preseason member of the All-WAC first team in 2003. During his time with the Spartans, he accumulated nine sacks, and 21 tackles for a loss. In 2003 he was third in the nation in forced fumbles with seven.
Xplorers Head Coach Danton Barto commented, "Philip Perry is another outstanding lineman assignment. We expect him to come in and be productive this season."
"Philip Perry falls right in line with the dominant pass rushers in terms of productivity," stated Xplorers Director of Player Personnel Chris Bauer. "He shares similar traits to the players that we have been assigned thus far. He will translate well as a lineman or a fullback / linebacker."
College Football News.com ranked Perry ahead of former University of Hawaii great Travis Laboy, who was a second round draft pick by the Tennessee Titans in 2004.
