San Diego Riptide News Release

SAN DIEGO – Earlier this week, Ed White resigned his post as Riptide President to become the Offensive Line Coach for the San Diego State Aztecs, pursuing his passion for coaching. Although the allure of a challenging front office position was very attractive, the call of coaching proved to be more enticing to the Charger Hall of Fame inductee.

"I've been a coach or a player for more than half my life and this has really been my passion," said White. "I have the opportunity to work with a group and a team that has plenty of potential."

White will remain on the San Diego Riptide board of advisors. Though his resignation comes rather suddenly, the Riptide continues to work hard to put together an amazing 2005 season.

"I had a long talk with Jon Runyan and he is fully committed to keeping this team going," continued White. "The Riptide has a great staff that is in the right place to make things happen."

Coach Sean Ponder will act as the interim President. Having three years of af2 experience under his belt, it is no question that Ponder is suited for the job.

"We wish Ed the best of luck and admire him in his pursuit of his dream," said Ponder. "As for the Riptide, we have already started plans for the 2005 season and are sure that we will make the season the best this franchise has ever experienced."

Along with his head coaching responsibilities, Ponder started his af2 career in group sales with the Wichita Stealth. As his tenure lengthened, his responsibilities included sponsorships and trade deals with local companies and community organizations. Ponder brings a perfect balance of coaching expertise and business savvy.
