Tri-City Storm News Release
Kearney, Neb. - Former Storm forwards Chris Wilkie and Austin Poganski helped the University of North Dakota win the NCAA Men's Hockey National Championship Saturday at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida.
The Fighting Hawks finished 34-6-4 and Poganski was the only North Dakota player to compete in all 44 games. In the championship, Poganski scored the team's final goal halfway through the third, sealing a 5-1 victory over the Quinnipiac Bobcats.
The sophomore from St. Cloud, Minnesota completed the season with ten goals and 25 points, fourth on the squad. Poganski played in two games for the Storm in 2012-13 before emerging finishing second on the Storm with 19 goals in 2013-14.
Freshman Chris Wilkie, the Storm's points leader in consecutive seasons (2013-15), played in 32 games this season, scoring five goals and nine points. Wilkie tied the Storm's single-season record with 35 goals in 2014-15. This season, Storm forward and Miami University commit Carson Meyer finished with 32 goals, the fifth-most in a Tri-City season.
Poganski is the third member of the 2012-13 Tri-City team to win a national championship. Last season, Trevor Mingoia won for Providence College. In 2014, Mike Vecchione won as a freshman with Union College.
