Published on April 11, 2016 under United States Hockey League (USHL) News Release
The United States Hockey League announced the CCM Forward, Defenseman and Goaltender of the Week for Week 29, the final week of the 2015-2016 regular season. Youngstown's Cameron Morrison won his second USHL Forward of the Week award thanks to an seven-point weekend, Omaha Lancers Michael Joyaux skated to an impressive four-point weekend to earn himself his first Defenseman of the Week award, and Cedar Rapids Zack LaRocque stopped 60 of 62 shots over two games, both of which were wins, to be named Goaltender of the Week. CCM Hockey is the official equipment partner of the USHL.
Forward: Cameron Morrison - Youngstown Phantoms
2 games: 4 goals, 3 assists, +8 rating
Morrison, the Phantoms leading scorer by 16 points, led the Phantoms offensively over the weekend in a 12-0, 5-4 (OT) sweep of Team USA. In the 12-0 win on Friday, the Aurora, ON native tallied a goal and two assists. He topped that on Saturday, as the University Notre Dame commit scored a hat trick, including the game-winner on a penalty shot with just one second remaining, in the 5-4 overtime win on Saturday. Morrison finished the season with 66 points (34 G, 32 A) in his rookie USHL campaign. Before joining Youngstown, the NHL Central Scouting ranked forward played for the York Simcoe Express (ETAMMHL) and Aurora Tigers (OJHL) programs. He was named to the 2016 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in where he scored a goal. The Youngstown Phantoms selected Morrison in the 2015 Phase II Draft in the 4th round, 51st overall.
Defenseman: Michael Joyaux - Omaha Lancers
3 games: 1 goal, 3 assists, +1 rating
Joyaux's first USHL Defenseman of the Week honor comes after the Bloomingdale, IL native dished out three assists in a 5-4 overtime win over the Western Conference leading Tri-City Storm on Friday night. He added a power play goal in the Lancers 5-4 overtime win over the Storm on Saturday night, giving him a four-point weekend. He finished the season with 14 points, ranking Joyaux second in team scoring by defensemen. Joyaux played for the Chicago Mission Bantam and U16 programs (HPHL), as well as the Tri-City Storm and Chicago Steel before being traded to Omaha earlier in the season. He has 35 points in 119 career USHL games. The uncommitted defenseman was a 2013 USHL Phase I Draft pick of the Tri-City Storm in the 6th round pick, 77th overall.
Goaltender: Zack LaRocque - Cedar Rapids RoughRiders
2-0-0-0, 1.00 GAA, .968 SV%
This is the first Goaltender of the Week award for LaRocque, who backstopped the RoughRiders to a pair of wins over the weekend en route to clinching the Anderson Cup. The two starts were only the fifth and sixth starts of LaRocque's USHL career. The Arvada, CO native stopped 30 of 32 shots in a 3-2 win over the Waterloo Black Hawks on Friday, and he followed up that performance by turning all 30 shots he faced aside in a 5-0 victory at Sioux City on Saturday night. The shutout over the Musketeers was his second shutout of the season. LaRocque finished the regular season with a 4-2-0-0 record, a .902 SV%, and a 3.00 GAA. Prior to the RoughRiders, LaRocque shined for Ralston Valley High and the Rocky Mountain RoughRiders U16 and U18 programs (ECEL and NAPHL). He was an ECEL 18U All-Star during the 2014-15 season. LaRocque was undrafted in the USHL, and is currently uncommitted.
