
Former Stingrays Goaltender Pheonix Copley to Attend Capitals Development Camp

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays' National Hockey League (NHL) affiliate, the Washington Capitals, announced today the initial roster for the 2014 Washington Capitals Development Camp, which includes former Stingrays goaltender Pheonix Copley. The camp takes place July 7-12 at Kettler Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, Virginia.

Copley, 22, skated in three regular-season contests for the Stingrays late last season going 2-1-0 with a 3.26 goals-against average and .906 save percentage. The North Pole, Alaska, native started Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals against the Wheeling Nailers, making 36 saves in a 3-2 overtime loss. Copley, who signed as a free agent with the Capitals on March 19, joined the Stingrays after completing his sophomore season at Michigan Tech earning a 10-13-6 record, ranked sixth in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) with a 2.51 goals-against average and seventh with a .911 save percentage leading to two WCHA Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Joining Copley at the camp and assisting the Capitals' equipment staff is Stingrays Equipment Manager Brian Godin.
