Spokane Shock News Release

Spokane, WA: The Spokane Shock announced today that DL Ayanga Okpokowuruk has been placed on Other League Exempt after he signed a contract with the NFL's Cleveland Browns as a member of the practice squad.

Okpokowuruk re-signed with Spokane in October after spending his rookie season with the Shock. In 2011, Okpokowuruk played in six games and collected eight tackles including a sack for Spokane.

Prior to joining the Shock, Okpokowuruk was a part of the NFL's Giants and re-joined New York after the NFL lockout was lifted. The Browns will be the second NFL team he has signed with.

"I really just want to prove to the coaches that I'm good enough to play with this team and make a significant contribution," Okpokowuruk said.

Okpokowuruk now joins a strong contingent of players with Spokane ties that have elevated their game to the next level.

"We're proud of Ayanga and what he has been able to accomplish," Head Coach Andy Olson explained. "All he wanted was an opportunity - and he earned this one. We will continue to give our players an opportunity to grow and reach their full potential."

For Okpokowuruk, like most AFL players, returning to the NFL was his primary objective.

"In all truth, the NFL is the ultimate goal. Ask any of the other Shock players and they will tell you the same thing. I just feel blessed to be in this position," Okpokowuruk said. "Maybe it will give some added motivation to the Shock players. They can get here too. "

The Shock will open training camp in February and will begin the 2012 season hosting the Iowa Barnstormers on Monday, March 12th. For ticket information contact the Shock Ticket Department by calling 509 242 7462 ext. 1.
