Former Samford Bulldog Michael Johnson Joins Barons

The Birmingham Barons and Chicago White Sox have announced that INF Michael Johnson has been transferred to Birmingham from Class AAA Charlotte. Roster at 25.

Johnson, 25, was drafted by the White Sox in the 31st round of the June 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of Samford University in Birmingham where he holds the school's all-time record for runs scored (175). During his senior season for the Bulldogs, Johnson hit .342 with 10 doubles, 11 steals and 22 RBI.

Coming into the 2014 season, Johnson had hit .256 (176-for-687) with seven home runs, 109 runs scored and 80 RBI over three professional seasons.

In 2013, he tied for eighth among White Sox farmhands in on-base percentage (.381) with Class A Kannapolis while hitting .286 (68-for-238) over 70 games.

Johnson began the 2014 season with Class A Winston-Salem hitting .156 (10-for-77) in 22 games before being promoted to Class AAA Charlotte on May 22nd. In four games with the Knights, Johnson went 0-for-6. This will be his first appearance at the Double-A level.
