Birmingham Barons News Release

Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons dropped game four of their five game series against the Jackson Generals by a score of 8-6 Sunday afternoon in front of 5,317 fans at Regions Field.

Jackson took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning on a two-run home run by Dario Pizzano against starter Scott Snodgress (3-5, 4.54). The lead grew to 3-0 an inning later on an RBI double by Patrick Kivlehan.

The Barons cut the Jackson lead to 3-2 in the fifth, getting a leadoff home run by Josh Richmond and an RBI infield single by Dan Wagner later in the inning. The homer was Richmond's second in as many days and his sixth on the season.

Snodgress exited with the Barons trailing 3-2 after allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out five over 5.0 IP. He was relieved by Nestor Molina who promptly allowed five runs on five hits in the sixth inning as Jackson took an 8-2 lead. The inning was highlighted by a two-run single by Kivlehan who finished with three RBI on the day.

Chris Curley extended his hitting streak to 12 games with an eighth inning double and scored on a base hit by Michael Earley. The streak is tied with Trayce Thompon's 12-game streak for the longest by a Baron this season and is one shy of the top Southern League streak in 2014.

The Barons mounted a final comeback in the ninth inning, getting a three-run home run by Wagner, cutting the Generals lead to 8-6. However, closer Mayckol Guaipe came on to face Trace Thompson and induced a flyout to end the game.

Jeremy Farrell paced the Barons offense with three hits, going 3-for-4 with a run scored. Richmond, Jamie Pedroza and Wagner finished with two hits apiece while Wagner finished with a season-high fourRBI.

With the loss, the Barons fell to 27-37 while the Generals improved to 28-35. The Barons will look to salvage a win in the series finale on Monday when they send RHP Mike Recchia (2-1, 1.96) to the hill against RHP Trevor Miller (4-6, 4.50). First pitch is scheduled for 11:30 AM CDT.
