Former Redskins and Colts Faceoff...In Softball

BOWIE, Md. - The Bowie Baysox announce today a partnership with the Washington Redskins Alumni Association to present the inaugural GEICO© "Battle of the Beltways" - A charity softball game being held Saturday, June 9 at 2:05 p.m. between the Washington Redskins Alumni and the Baltimore Colts/Baltimore Ravens Alumni.

Come see some of this region's legendary football players get after it on the field once more as they take on a new challenge...softball! The former players will be putting it all on the line in the inaugural "Battle of the Beltways" event.

Baysox Assistant General Manager Phil Wrye helped organize the event. "Anyone who grew up in the area as a football fan will have the chance to see some of their childhood Redskins and Colts idols battle it out on the field once again during this charity softball event," Wrye said. "This is the first event of what I think will become a tradition of beltway battles determined on the softball field."

The two teams of former NFL Players will help support numerous charitable endeavors through this game. The organizations that will benefit from this event include: the GEICO Brave Dave Open, the Redskins Alumni Youth Charities, Literacy for a Lifetime, Warriors Aviation, Kids in Need Distributors and Tommy Joe's Jon Lowe Foundation.

"We are excited to partner up with the Bowie Baysox on this special event," said Jerry Olsen, Executive Director of the Washington Redskins Alumni. "We're looking forward to helping to raise funds for some great charitable organizations and have a spirited competition between the Redskins Alumni and the Baltimore Colts & Ravens Alumni to see which beltway reigns supreme."

The event will include a seven-inning softball game played on the Prince George's Stadium field, an autograph session with many of the players, memorabilia auction/raffle and much more! Former NFL Players invited to participate include former Washington Redskins players: Mark Moseley, Rich Milot, Mike Nelms, Pat Fischer, Ron McDole, Ted Vactor, Clarence Vaughn, Ravin Caldwell, Ron Saul, Roy Jefferson, Mike Bragg and Kenny Jenkins.

Former Baltimore Colts/Ravens invited to participate include: Doug Eggers, Maxie Baugh, Adrian Mehrang, John Booty, Bruce Laird, Artie Donovan, Lenny Moore and Tom Matte. Additional players will be announced and these lists will be updated as the event nears.

The Washington Redskins Alumni will be utilizing the "home" dugout on the 1st base side (odd numbered seating sections) while the Baltimore Alumni will be utilizing the "away" dugout on the 3rd base side of the field (even numbered seating sections).
