Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- The Quakes Opening Day closer in 2007, Darren O'Day, has made the jump to the Major Leagues after being added to the Angles 25-man roster late Saturday night. With the injuries to the Angels bullpen, most notably Chris Bootcheck and Scot Shields, O'Day earned himself a spot by dominating in Spring Training going 3-0 with a 2.04 ERA while striking out 14 and walking only 5 in 17.2 innings pitched.

O'Day, who dominated with the Quakes in '07, was 4-0 with a 0.75 ERA and was a perfect 11 for 11 in save opportunities. He was selected as a California League All-Star in June and was promoted to AA Arkansas right after the game. In Arkansas, O'Day continued his success going 3-4 with a 3.99 ERA and saved 10 games.

The University of Florida graduate was signed as a free agent in 2006 and made his pro-debut with the Orem Owlz that year.

The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes are the Advanced-A California League affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and open their 2008 home schedule on Monday, April 7th at the Epicenter against the High Desert Mavericks.
