NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Junior outfielder Brent Rooker was selected by the Minnesota Twins with the 35th pick of the Major League Baseball Draft tonight. Rooker was the fifth selection of the supplemental round.

Rooker, a 2014 Plymouth Pilgrim, ranked third in the NECBL with seven homers. He hit .275 with 20 RBI and six steals. His RBI total ranked in the League's top 15. The 6'4" Rooker, a Mississippi State product from suburban Memphis, had a two homer and five RBI game in a July win against Mystic.

The 2017 SEC Player of the Year, senior Rooker "has taken his game to a new level this year by making adjustments to his swing, doing a better job of using his lower half and quickening his right-handed stroke," said MLB.com. "He always has packed a lot of strength in his big frame and is doing a better job of getting to his power this year, with improved plate discipline another contributing factor."

2017 marks the tenth consecutive draft where a New England League product has been selected in the first round. Rooker is the 26th first rounder in NECBL history and the 11th first round selection since 2012.

The NECBL congratulates Brent on this significant accomplishment.
