Missoula PaddleHeads News Release
MISSOULA, MONT. - Monday afternoon, MLB.com released their annual "MLB Pipeline Prospect Watch" for the Arizona Diamondbacks - tabbing the 30 most highly touted prospects in the organization. In total 12 former Osprey received recognition, but none more impressive than former SS Jazz Chisholm ('16) who has been named the D-Backs #1 overall prospect.
Chisholm opened the eyes of scouts across baseball in 2018 while knocking 25 home runs across two levels and with his strong performance as one of the youngest players in the Arizona Fall League. Joining Jazz in the Top 10 are a foursome of Osprey we had the pleasure of watching in 2018 - OF Kristian Robinson (#5), SS Geraldo Perdomo (#6), OF Alek Thomas (#7) and SS Blaze Alexander (#9).
Former Osprey that round out the Diamondbacks Top 30 include - C Andy Yerzy ('16,'17) at #12, P Emilio Vargas ('15) at #16, 3B Buddy Kennedy ('18) at #19, OF Marcus Wilson ('15) at #20, Jorge Barrosa ('18) at #24, OF Eduardo Diaz ('16) at #25 and Dominic Miroglio ('17) at #27.
When analyzing talent, MLB.com recognizes the "Biggest Jump" taken by a prospect and the "Best Tools" they bring to the organization (graded on a scale from 20-80). Of these, Geraldo Perdomo was the D-Backs prospect with the Biggest Jump, NR in 2018 to #6 in 2019. Alek Thomas and Buddy Kennedy share the highest "Hit" tool (55) with two other Diamondbacks prospects - Kristian Robinson sits alone as the best "Power" (60) prospect in the organization - Alek Thomas, Jorge Barrosa and Eduardo Diaz share the highest "Run" score (60) - Blaze Alexander holds the highest ranking for any tool in the organization with "Arm" (70) - Geraldo Perdomo, Alek Thomas and Jorge Barrosa share the title of best "Defense" tools (60).
The Diamondbacks currently hold 7 top 100 picks in the 2019 MLB First-Year Player Draft. Suffice to say that the organization is set up to add considerable talent to this list and continue to give baseball fans in Missoula a great showing of talent, and the opportunity to watch future of MLB.
The 2019 version of the Osprey will host their home opener on Friday, June 21, against the Great Falls Voyagers. Ticket Packages are now on sale at the MSO Hub Box Office at 140 N. Higgins, by phone at (406) 543-3300 or online at MissoulaOsprey.com.
