With the Modesto Nuts 2007 season right around the corner, baseball fever is sweeping Modesto. With less than two weeks until Opening Day on April 5th, John Thurman Field is buzzing with activity in anticipation of baseball's return to Modesto. While the Nuts roster will not be finalized until this upcoming weekend, the Modesto Nuts are projected to be a very exciting, fast and athletic team in 2007. Stay tuned as the Modesto Nuts will keep fans updated on all of the happenings at John Thurman Field.

There are a number of former Modesto Nuts who are currently trying to win jobs on the Colorado Rockies Major League roster. Three members of the Nuts 2005 team are projected to start the season with the Rockies. Former first round draft pick Troy Tulowitzki was recently announced as the Rockies starting shortstop for the 2007 season. Tulowitzki started his professional career in Modesto and quickly moved his way up through the Rockies system. The Rockies also announced Sunday that Tulowitzki was the recipient of the 2007 Abby Greer award as the team's Spring Training MVP. Tulowitzki is the second former Nuts player to win the award (Ian Stewart won it in 2006).

Former Modesto Nuts catcher Chris Iannetta is another player who is currently battling for a starting job with the Rockies. Recently, Sports Illustrated said that Iannetta was the #3 rookie to watch this season, as he is expected to get lots of playing time in 2007. Also in the running for a job with the Rockies is former Nuts relief pitcher Manny Corpas. Corpas made his Major League debut in 2006 and has performed very well since. This spring, Corpas has been practically unhittable, and is the front-runner for the Rockies final bullpen spot.

Turning our attention to John Thurman Field, the numerous stadium improvements are all in their final stages. The Modesto Nuts new video board is up and running. The new board has many capabilities including instant replay and live action cameras which will be able to capture all of the great baseball action, not to mention our great fans.

Now is the best time to get your seats reserved for the upcoming Modesto Nuts season. With so many new improvements, the Nuts want to make sure you have the opportunity to take part in a new era of baseball in Modesto. Opening Day is April 5th against the Visalia Oaks.
