Omaha Beef News Release
The Omaha Beef's Head Coach, Marvin Jones, has revealed the signing of rookie player, Matthew Wilkerson, to the CFL's Edmonton Elks.
Wilkerson attended Edward Waters College under Head Coach Greggory Ruffin, showing promise on both sides of the ball as a tight end and defensive end, grabbing the attention of the NFL. Before the 2020 NFL season, Wilkerson had the opportunity to work out for the Green Bay Packers and Jacksonville Jaguars before being released. Wilkerson continued to train at both positions before signing as wide receiver and defensive lineman with the Omaha Beef.
It was through the NFL Draft Bible's partnership with Marvin Jones' Pro Football Free Agent Database. The Pro Football Free Agent Database is utilized by NFL, CFL, TSL, USFL, FCF, CIF, IFL, NAL, and international organizations scouts by gathering prospective players' information and for ease of assessment to assist them with advancement in their football careers.
"This opportunity came about through hard work and dedication," Wikerson stated. He further added, "My mentor Marvin Jones...kept me motivated through tough times. Even when the odds were against me he never gave up on me and never stopped believing... I couldn't have done it without him."
Playing eleven seasons with the Jets, winning the 2021 CIF Championship for the Omaha Beef, and most recently, having been inducted into the Class of 2022 College Football Hall of Fame, Jones has established an indispensable role mentoring and paving the path of football players working to make a name for themselves.
"I think it's important to make these connections for players. Simply because a lot of these players aren't shown the right way and just need direction," is quoted by Marvin Jones, Head Coach of the Omaha Beef. Jones advised Wilkerson to stay dedicated for two years, play for Omaha, and to see the opportunities unfold. After visiting with the Edmonton Elks it was shortly after Wilkerson was offered a contract to play. "That's what it's about for me. It's never about me, but it's all about the players," Jones stated.
