Former MSU Ace Rhp Michael Streaman Signs, Frias Injured
June 25, 2010 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Sussex Skyhawks News Release
In their third roster move in as many days, the Sussex Skyhawks signed RHP Michael Streaman on Wednesday, June 9th and placed RHP Jusef Frias on the disabled list with a low pull in his Achilles tendon. Manager Ed Ott believes that Frias will miss only one start due to the injury, and newly signed RHP Mike Vicaro will start in his place at Worcester on Friday.
The 24-year-old Streaman hails from Westfield, N.J. and is a recent graduate of Montclair State University. The rookie professional was the premier starting pitcher on the Montclair State staff in 2009 and was named to the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association Division II/III First Team All-State. As a senior, the 6-foot, 185-pound right-hander led the Red Hawks in wins (6), ERA (2.91), innings pitched (65), and hits per nine innings (7.89) and finished third on the team in strikeouts (38). His ERA and hits per nine innings marks ranked in the top 90 among all NCAA hurlers.
Streaman made his first professional appearance in the Skyhawks' 16-3 victory over Les Capitales de Quebec at CenturyLink Field at Skylands Park on Wednesday. The righty hit the first batter he faced with an 0-2 delivery but went on to throw two scoreless innings without allowing a hit.
