Mohegan Wolves News Release
NEW LONDON, Conn. (December 6, 2002) â The Mohegan Wolves (arenafootball2) have announced that offensive/defensive lineman Jeff Cogell has signed a contract to play for the New Jersey Gladiators of the Arena Football League. Cogell is the first player in Mohegan Wolves history to sign a contract with an AFL team.
"I'm very excited and glad to see a young player get a chance to move up to the next level," said Wolves Coach Mark Stoute. "He's very deserving of the opportunity. I hope to get a chance to see him play there this year."
Cogell earned the prestigious "Built Ford Tough Man of the Year" Award in 2002 after leading the Wolves in sacks (7.5) in their inaugural season. The award, presented by af2 and Ford Division Trucks, annually honors the unsung heroes who do the small things to help their teams get the extra yard, make the big block or provide a game-winning tackle.
The 6-2, 285-pound former American International College standout also led Mohegan in tackles for a loss in 2002 with eight and tied for third overall in total tackles with 35.0. On the offensive side of the ball, Cogell scored five touchdowns on the season, three rushing and two receiving.
In other team news, the "Mohegan Wolves Tee's Plus Tryout Camp" will be held at the Connecticut Sportsplex (North Branford, Conn.) next Saturday, Dec. 14. To pre-register for the tryout, please contact Wolves Coach Mark Stoute by calling the football office at 860.298.8541. Space for the camp is limited so it is highly recommended that campers pre-register by contacting Coach Stoute before Friday, Dec. 13. Registration will begin promptly at 5:30 PM on the day of the camp. The tryout will run from 7:00 â 10:00 PM.
