Former Indians GM teams up with UC Davis

Sacramento - The University of California Davis Extension announced today that award-winning sports industry executive Mark Cryan will be teaching Marketing and Media Relations for Your Sports Event. This class is part of the Sports Event Management certificate program offered on-line by UC Davis Extension. Previously, Cryan has taught Sponsorships: How to Cultivate and Maintain Partnerships for Your Sports Event as part of the UC Davis Extension program, and also serves as an adjunct faculty member at Elon University's Love School of Business. During his tenure as the General Manager of the Burlington Indians, the team was honored with the Freitas Award from Baseball America magazine, given to the top franchises in minor league baseball. Cryan was also a presenting speaker at the Freitas Promotional Seminar at the 2005 Baseball Winter Meetings in Dallas.

Prior to his work in Burlington, Cryan served as the Vice President and Director of Operations for the Coastal Plain League, Director of Operations for the Raleigh IceCaps in the East Coast Hockey League, and as Marketing Director of the Fayetteville Generals, the Class A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers.

Cryan also spent several years in agency public relations and marketing in New York City, where his agency's clients included Olympic speedskater Dan Jansen, Notre Dame football, and heavyweight boxing champion Riddick Bowe. During his time in New York, Mark also worked for the New Jersey Devils of the NHL.

Currently working as the Athletic Director for the City of Burlington, North Carolina, Cryan is writing a North Carolina baseball travel guide that will be published by August Publications (www.ballparkdigest.com) later this spring.
