Fresno Grizzlies News Release

FRESNO, CA - The Baseball Writers' Association of America announced today that San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey was voted the 2010 National League winner of the Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year award. He received 20 of the 32 total first-place votes, as well as nine second-place votes and two third-place votes.

Posey began the 2010 campaign with the Fresno Grizzlies, Triple-A affiliate of the 2010 World Champion Giants. While in Fresno he batted .349 with six home runs, 32 runs batted in and a .442 on-base percentage in 47 games before his call up to San Francisco on May 29th. Combined with his 2009 totals, Posey has batted .337 with 21 doubles, 11 home runs and 54 RBI in 82 career games with the Grizzlies.

Posey finished the Major League portion of his season with a .305 batting average and 18 home runs. Despite playing in just 108 big league games, he became the first Giant to take home Rookie of the Year honors since John Montefusco in 1975. The young catcher also notched the second-longest hitting streak by a Giants' rookie by hitting in 21 straight games from July 4th-28th. That streak fell just one game shy of Willie McCovey's rookie club record of 22, set back in 1959.

The Fresno Grizzlies will begin their 10th season at Chukchansi Park on Thursday, April 7th, 2011 when they welcome the Las Vegas 51s to downtown Fresno. Season ticket and mini-plan packages are now available at the Chukchansi Park Box Office or by calling 559-320-HITS.
