Green Bay Blizzard News Release
Former Blizzard DS Chris Martin has been named Defensive Player of the Week by the Canadian Football League (CFL).
Martin (5-11, 190, Washington State), a Defensive Back for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, received the award for his performance Saturday in a 24-19 win over the Ottawa Renegades. Martin posted five tackles, one sack and an interception in the Tiger-Cats' final game of the CFL regular season. The award is the first of Martin's CFL career.
After joining the Tiger-Cats mid-season, Martin made an immediate impact, helping the team post a 4-1 record for the month of October. Prior to his arrival, the Tiger-Cats were 5-7-1 and facing the ominous proposition of having to play three of their last five games on the road. However, with Martin's help, the team ran off three wins in a row and stormed their way into the CFL playoffs with a final record of 9-8-1.
Martin and his teammates will have their work cut out for them, as they play the 10-7-1 Toronto Argonauts in the first round of the CFL playoffs: the Ti-Cats went 0-2-1 against the Argos during the regular season.
