Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
HIDALGO, TX: November 4, 2004 â Two members of the 2004 Rio Grande Valley Dorados made the first step of advancing their football careers late Wednesday, as wide receiver/linebacker Preston Hartfield signed a contract with the Arena Football League's (AFL) New Orleans VooDoo and defensive specialist Eddie Moten signed with the AFL's Philadelphia Soul. The two become the first members of the Dorados to sign a contract with an AFL squad after serving time with the Dorados.
Hartfield, a 6'1" 210-pound native of Alvord, Texas, was on the Dorados "exempt" list most of the season. He was placed on the "exempt to other league" list after the Dorados third game, as he had signed a contract with the NFL's Baltimore Ravens. Hartfield was later released by the Ravens, but chose not to return to the Dorados to pursue other interests at the NFL level. In the three games with Rio Grande Valley, Hartfield had 8 receptions for 92 yards and 3 touchdowns on the offensives side of the ball and had 10 tackles (5 solo), 1 intereption, 2.5 tackles for a loss, and a half-sack on defense. He was named the US Army Ironman of the Game on 4/3/04 verses Laredo and was the ADT Defensive Player of the Game against Oklahoma City on 4/24/04. The Texas Tech product holds the Dorados single-game record for assisted tackles with 7 (4/24/04 vs. OKC).
Moten played in 11 games with the Dorados and finished the year as a First Team All-af2 recipient. The 5'10 185-pound Dallas native also claimed the af2 ADT Defensive Player of the Week honor for the final week of the regular season to become the league's only two-time winner this season. His performance this season earned the Dorados "Rookie of the Year" award and the team's "Defensive Player of the Year" honor. The Texas A&M-Kingsville product co-led the af2 in interceptions with 10, while finishing second on the squad in tackles (47.5), pass break-ups (18), forced fumbles (tied 2) and leading the league in interception return yards (124). Moten owns the Dorados single-game record for unassisted tackles (8 vs. TUL 6/12/04), total tackles (8.5 vs. TUL 6/12/04) and interceptions with 3 on 7/31/04 at Wichita.
The Dorados are currently in "off season" mode and are in preparation for the 2005 season. To inquire about tickets and advertising packages for the 2005 season, please contact the Dorados offices at 956-843-7825 or visit the Dorados online at www.doradosfootball.com.
