Green Bay Blizzard News Release

Former Green Bay Blizzard MVP Maurice Simpkins is currently participating in his second NFL training camp, this time with the St. Louis Rams. Simpkins, a linebacker, wears number 54 for the Rams. The first preseason game for the Rams is Saturday, August 13 against the Indianapolis Colts.

Last year, after being named First Team All-IFL linebacker for the Blizzard, Simpkins was invited to the Green Bay Packers training camp and appeared in all four preseason games and was active for four regular season games before being waived. A little more than a month later, he was signed to the St. Louis Rams practice squad on December 8th, 2010. Simpkins would remain with the Rams through the end of the season.

During the 2010 Blizzard season, Simpkins totaled 126 tackles, 5 sacks, 5 interceptions (2 returned for touchdowns) 3 passes broken up and 1 forced fumble. He led the IFL in solo tackles with 85, but his most impressive stat might have been his league leading 10 blocked field goals. Simpkins was named the 2010 IFL Most Improved Player.
