Green Bay Blizzard News Release
The Green Bay Blizzard has announced that former Blizzard assistant coach Rod Miller has joined the coaching staff of the Arena Football League's expansion Kansas City Brigade.
Miller, who had been with the Blizzard since the team's inaugural season in 2003, was named Special Teams Coordinator/Offensive Assistant by Brigade Head Coach Kevin Porter, who also serves as the team's Director of Football Operations.
During his tenure with the Blizzard, Miller proved a versatile and knowledgeable coach. In 2003 he was the team's Defensive Coordinator. In 2004 he served as Offensive Coordinator under Head Coach Brian Noble. In 2005, when Noble moved from the coaching staff to the front office, Miller did double duty as Offensive Coordinator and Team Development Coordinator under new Head Coach Bob Landsee.
Prior to his joining the Blizzard, Miller had spent the previous three seasons with the af2's Carolina Rhinos. During his time with the Rhinos, Miller served as Head Coach, Offensive Coordinator, Special Teams Coordinator and Wide Receiver/Defensive Backs Coach.
With Miller at the helm in Carolina, the Rhinos qualified for the playoffs 2 out of his 3 seasons, reaching the semifinals in 2001. Miller's teams ranked #1 in most defensive categories in 2001, ranked #1 in special teams returns in 2000 and 2001, and ranked #1 in rushing in 2000.
Miller has also served as Receivers Coach at Tyler Junior College (Tyler, TX), where he coached current Green Bay Packers WR Robert Ferguson and current Houston Texans and 2002 All-Canadian Football League (CFL) WR Derrick Armstrong. Other coaching stops include Kentucky State University, Lincoln Lightning (IFL), Brownell Talbot high School and the North Omaha Bears.
