Sioux City Bandits News Release

Omaha, NE - Former Sioux City Bandits running back Fred Jackson is in the midst of trying to make the Buffalo Bills' 53 man roster.

The 2005 UIF MVP signed with the Bills after his excellent 2005 campaign. That year, Jackson led the league with a remarkable 1,770 yards rushing, 3,699 all-purpose yards and 53 total touchdowns.

The Fort Worth, Texas, native told the Buffalo News that he enjoyed his time in Sioux City playing for the Bandits. "It took me two years to knock on the door," Jackson said of his indoor football seasons. "But it was a great opportunity for me to go out and take advantage of, and it got me a look from the NFL. We averaged about 6,000 people a game. It was pretty cool. It's a small town, and it's something everybody gets into."

Jackson attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the alma mater of Bills' General Manager Marv Levy. He also spent time in NFL Europa where he played for the Rhein Fire.

So far this preseason, Jackson has amassed 102 yards on 21 carries and scored two rushing touchdowns; he's also caught nine passes for 130 yards. In the Bills' latest pre-season game against the Tennessee Titans, Jackson returned two kicks for 51 yards.

It will be stiff competition for Jackson to make the roster as there are five other running backs competing. The group includes the Bills' first-round draft choice Marshawn Lynch, NFL veterans Josh Scobey, Anthony Thomas and Shaud Williams as well as Dwayne Wright.

Jackson realizes it will be tough to make the team, but according to the Buffalo News, he's keeping his hopes up. "All I can do is take care of my business and try to show the coaches that I can make plays for them," Jackson said. "I just have to go out and perform the best that I can, and hopefully I can make the decision even harder for them."

The Bills complete their pre-season Thursday against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field. Buffalo will open the regular season Sunday, September 9, against the Denver Broncos at home.
