
Former All Blacks star Carlos Spencer joins NOLA staff

Widely regarded as one of the best players of his generation, the Gold is thrilled that "The King" Carlos Spencer will be joining NOLA's coaching staff for the 2022 season. Spencer began his professional career in Australia in 1996, playing for the Auckland Blues in the first season of Super Rugby. After 99 appearances in Super Rugby, Spencer moved to England to sign with the Northampton Saints. Following a successful career in Premiership Rugby, Spencer returned to Super Rugby, playing for the Golden Lions of South Africa.
Internationally, Spencer had a very successful career for the New Zealand All-Blacks. Spencer won 35 test caps as a fly-half, including being selected for the 2003 World Cup. Following his achievements as a player, Spencer moved into the coaching ranks. Spencer began his coaching career with the Lions in 2012, eventually becoming the head coach of the Munakata Sanix Blues in Japan Rugby League One in 2016. The Gold is thrilled to bring in a coach with Spencer's plethora of experience for the 2022 season!
Spencer says that he is "excited for the Major League Rugby season. I am looking forward to the experience and can't wait to create some memorable moments with the players, coaches, and fans."
