Forge FC Takes Close Win against Atlético Ottawa
June 25, 2023 - Canadian Premier League (CPL)
Atletico Ottawa News Release
Atlético Ottawa slipped to a narrow defeat away to defending champions Forge FC as self-inflicted sounds prevented Head Coach Carlos González's side from capitalizing in this feisty and heated encounter.
KEY MOMENTS
Atlético Ottawa lost 4-3 to Forge FC at Tim Hortons Field.
Gabriel Antinoro scored his first professional goal, opening the score after just 23 seconds of play.
The 19-year-old's goal is the second fastest in Canadian Premier League history, behind former Atlético midfielder Francisco Acuña.
An own goal by Niba Macdonald followed by a loose back pass, capitalized on by the Hamilton-based side, saw Atlético fall behind by the 11th minute.
Maxim Tissot's stunning second-half free-kick halved the deficit and, moments later, Gianni dos Santos scored his second goal of the season to tie the game at 3-3.
However, Forge found a fourth, and a winning goal, with ten minutes left to play.
Ottawa was without duo, striker Malcolm Shaw and defender Luke Singh, who are both away representing Trinidad and Tobago at the Gold Cup.
Shaw and Singh made their international debuts in a 3-0 over St. Kitts and Nevis.
Atlético Ottawa faces a short week following the return from Hamilton, with a trip to Vancouver Island to face Pacific FC on Friday (KO 9:30 pm, live on OneSoccer).
The next home match is on July 9, 2023, with Valour FC's first trip to TD Place this season.
