
Forge FC Defeat Atletico Ottawa and Advance to Next Round of Canadian Championship

Hamilton, ON - - Forge FC have advanced to the next round Canadian Championship after defeating Atletico Ottawa in a tightly contested affair. Forge FC took the lead in the 76th minute when a beautiful pass over top from Alexander Achinioti-Jönsson found its way to the Captain Kyle Bekker who made no mistake of putting the ball away in the top corner of the net. Forge held on till the 87th minute where a questionable handball was called on Manjrekar James, sending Ollie Bassett to the spot where he tied the match up 1-1 after 90 minutes of play. The two clubs proceeded on to a penalty shootout where Forge FC earned the clubs first ever win via penalty kicks with a thrilling 3-2 victory.
Forge FC have now advanced to the Canadian Championship Semi-Final where they will take on MLS side CF Montreal at the Stade Saputo in Montreal, Quebec.
KEY POINTS:
Triston Henry - Registered two saves including a match saving stop at the end of the match to take the club to penalty shootouts. The goalkeeper made 2 saves in the penalty shootout helping the club advance.
Kyle Bekker- Scored the goal for Forge making it his first goal this season.
Alexander Achinioti-Jönsson - Picked up his first assist of the season on Bekker's goal in the match. Was defensively solid in the match with 2 tackles and 4 clearances. Stepped on and put away Forge FC's second penalty goal.
Aboubacar Sissoko - Scored the match winning penalty.
Forge FC now hold a record of 9 wins, 1 loss, and 2 draws all-time versus Atlético Ottawa.
