Forge FC Announces First International Player Signing

January 17, 2019 - Canadian Premier League (CPL) - Forge FC News Release

Forge FC announced Thursday the club has signed Cameroonian international central defender Bertrand Owundi, who becomes the first international signing in franchise history. Owundi's addition to the squad is pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and necessary work visa documentation.

"Bertrand is a very good addition to our ongoing roster build. He brings a solid mentality to our defensive core and valuable experience on the international stage," said Bobby Smyrniotis, Technical Director and Head Coach of Forge FC. "His ability on the ball, along with his strong defensive qualities, will fit in well with our group."

Owundi, 25, spent the 2018 season with Major League Soccer's Minnesota United FC, splitting time between the MLS team and their United Soccer League affiliate, the Charlotte Independence. The 6-2, 190-pound native of Ekono, Cameroon, has also represented his country at the National Team level at the 2018 African Nations Championship in Morocco.

Forge FC will kick off the inaugural CPL season in April 2019. For season ticket information, please visit
