Georgia Force News Release

FLOWERY BRANCH, GA, February 22, 2005 – The Arena Football League announced today that Force Defensive Specialist Kevin Gaines was named the League's ADT Defensive Player of the Week. This is the first AFL weekly award for Gaines during his eight-year career. Following the 2004 season, he earned second team All-Arena honors.

Last week in the Force's 38-13 victory over the Las Vegas Gladiators, Gaines hauled in a career-high tying three interceptions and made eight tackles and one fumble recovery. He also contributed on special teams with one kickoff return for three yards.

With the help of Gaines' defensive efforts, the Georgia defense was able to establish several new team records against the Gladiators. By only giving up 13 points to Las Vegas, the Force set a new team record for least points allowed in a game (previously 19 at Carolina 4/18/03). Georgia held Las Vegas scoreless in the 1st, 3rd and 4th quarters, which was the second time in team history they had pitched a shutout in the second half (at Carolina 4/18/03). Georgia is currently ranked 1st in the AFL in points allowed per game (37.5) and 1st in red zone defense only allowing opponents to score on 8-of-15 tries in the red zone on the season.

Under the direction of new owner Arthur M. Blank, owner & CEO of the Atlanta Falcons, and new head coach Doug Plank, the Georgia Force are off to their best start in team history at 3-1. The Force travel this week to play the Austin Wranglers on Friday, February 25 at 8:30 p.m. ET. Georgia Force single-game tickets start as low as $7.
