Force Streaks Past Comets In Overtime For Win, 6-5

KANSAS CITY, MO. -- The Cleveland Force traveled to the Show Me State and defeated the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Kansas City Comets by a final score of 6-5 in overtime at the Kemper Arena. The game was the second game of a home and home weekend series between the Force and Comets. Kansas City defeated Cleveland 8-3 on Friday night at the Wolstein Convocation Center.

With the victory, the Force improved to 9-12 overall, 2-4 in overtime games, 4- 6 on the road, 2-2 versus the Comets this season and 38-41 all-time versus Kansas City teams. With the loss, the Comets fell to 9-12 overall, 2-1 in overtime and 4-5 at home.

Kansas City got things started quickly (0-1) when forward Jamar Beasley scored the first goal with his knee off the cross from Drew Perkins just 17 seconds into the first quarter. Cleveland tied the game (1-1) when Lorain native and forward Chris Dore scored the power play goal off the assist from defender Genoni Martinez at 10:43. The assist marked the second assist for Martinez as a member of the Force.

The Comets regained the lead (1-2) when Stefan Stokich buried a shot off the cross from Goran Hunjak at 2:42 of the second quarter.

Cleveland tied the game for the second time and opened the second half scoring (2-2) when defender Rene Rivas nailed a shot pass Kansas City goalkeeper Sanaldo off the pass from defender John Ball at 2:04 of the third quarter. The Comets regained the lead (2-3) when James Koehler scored the unassisted power goal at 10:02. The Force tied the game for the third time (3-3) when forward Chris Handsor scored the unassisted goal at 12:44.

Cleveland took its first lead of the weekend and the game (4-3) when Martinez scored his first ever goal as a member of the Force off the cross from forward Sipho Sibiya at 5:20 of the fourth quarter. Kansas City tied the game for the fourth time (4-4) when Beasley scored his second goal of the game and fourth of the weekend at 8:17. Cleveland regained the lead (5-4) when Handsor scored his second goal of the game off the assist from Dore at 9:44. The Comets tied the game for the fifth time (5-5) when forward Dino Delevski scored the goal off the cross from Hunjak at 14:41.

The Force won the game in the extra session (6-5) when defender Matt Johnson nailed the game-winner off the cross from Martinez at 7:25 in overtime.

Cleveland will stay on the road when it travels to Baltimore, Maryland on Saturday, February 19 in the first game of a back-to-back weekend contests versus the defending MISL Champion Baltimore Blast at the 1st Mariner Arena. The Force will then return home to take on the MISL leading Philadelphia KIXX on Sunday, February, 20 at the Wolstein Center.
