Chicago Storm News Release

Chicago – The Chicago Storm picked up their fifth straight victory with a 5-1 win over the rival Milwaukee Wave tonight at the UIC Pavilion. The Storm improved their record to 11-12 in the MISL as Milwaukee fell to 11-10. The "Yellow and Black now lead the I-94 rivalry series 4-3 with one more game remaining between the teams this season. Storm goalkeeper Danny Waltman made 10 saves on 11 Wave shots in the contest to preserve the win.

"This was a complete win for us," said Storm Head Coach Frank Klopas. "I am very proud of the team. They fought hard and just did a lot of the little things that we need to do to win games. It was probably our best performance of the season from start to finish. Milwaukee came out hard and scored the first goal and the guys reacted very well and they knew to be patient and the goals would come. They did not make many mistakes and were able to capitalize on some of Milwaukee's. We are moving in the right direction, but there is still a long way to go."

Storm forward Mark Ughy recorded the game-winning goal off of a restart at the 6:31 mark of the second quarter after Novi dumped a pass into the box right to him. The Miskolc, Hungry native gathered the pass, turned and fired a shot past Wave goalkeeper Nick Vorberg, recording his 18th goal of the season and extending the Storm's lead to 2-1.

In the first quarter, the Wave got on the board first after defender Pat White blasted a shot from beyond the yellow line off the boards and midfielder Johnny Torres chipped a shot past Waltman to give the Wave an early 1-0 lead.

The Storm took control of the game, tallying four goals in the second quarter to pull away from their rivals. The "Yellow and Black" tied the game 1-1 after Lazo Alavanja blasted a shot past Wave goalkeeper Nick Vorberg at 4:40 of the second quarter. Storm midfielder Gus Karterouliotis raced up the right wing and slid a pass under a defender and right onto the foot of Alavanja. Karteroulots picked up his third goal of the season after Jorge Valle connected with him on the right wing. The Palm Harbor, Florida native gathered the pass and blasted a right-footed shot into the top right corner past Vorberg to give the Storm a 3-1 advantage. Ughy scored his second of the game and the Storm's fourth of the quarter at 11:52.

Storm midfielder Nino DaSilva picked up the only goal in the second half at the 8:54 mark of the third quarter. The Hoffman Estates, Illinois native darted up the right wing and gathered a loose ball in the offensive end. DaSilva dribbled around Vorberg and calmly slotted a shot into the open net to give the Storm a 5-1 lead. The goal gave DaSilva his fourth of the season and extended his point-scoring streak to five straight games, tying a team record set by Byron Alvarez early this season.

The Storm will last game of their home stand next Friday night when they face off against the St. Louis Steamers at the UIC Pavilion at 7:30 p.m. CT. The game can be heard live on www.chicagostorm.net in English and Univision Radio WRTO 1200 AM in Spanish.
