Force Storms Past Chicago For Victory

CLEVELAND, OHIO - The Cleveland Force played host and defeated the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Chicago Storm tonight by a final score of 8-1at the Convocation Center at Cleveland State University.

With the victory, the Force improved to 5-6 overall, 2-1 in the season series and 3-4 at home. With the loss, the Storm fell to 6-10 overall and 3-7 on the road.

Chicago wasted not time getting on the board (0-1) when Jorge Valle nailed a shot past Cleveland goalkeeper Jim Larkin, who came off the line, and a Force defender for the early score off the cross from David Schneider at 1:58 of the first quarter. Cleveland tied the game back up (1-1) when John Ball took the rebound shot of Gary DePalma and hit the ball past a diving Storm goalkeeper Danny Waltman at 4:17. The Force took their first lead of the game (2-1) when Robbie Aristodemo shot the ball off the boards and took his initial shot away from Waltman then put into the side of the goal at 9:56. Cleveland added to its lead (3-1) when Rene Rivas scored the power play goal off the assist from Adauto Neto at 12:12.

The Force opened the second quarter scoring and added to their lead (4-1) when Joel Bailey took a pass of the boards from Rivas and tapped the ball in for the score at 9:09.

Cleveland opened the second half scoring (5-1) when Gary DePalma took a loose ball at the midfield line and ran up field but an attempted slide tackle by Waltman failed and the ball went off Gary into the back of the net at 3:41 of the third quarter. The Force kept the scoring attack rolling (6-1) when Ball took the long outlet pass out of the defensive end from DePalma and buried the shot into the lower right corner for his second goal of the game at 10:24. Cleveland scored the short-handed goal (7-1) when Ball recorded his first hat- trick of the season for the Force off the assist from Larkin at 13:15. Cleveland kept the scoring rolling (8-1) after Waltman mishandled the clear and Sipho Sibiya knocked the ball away to Bailey who scored his second goal of the game at 14:31.

The two teams battled to a scoreless fourth quarter.
