Cleveland Force News Release

CLEVELAND, OHIO- Cleveland Force President and General Manager Paul Garofolo today announced that the Force has signed forward Everson Maciel for the remainder of the season plus an option year. Per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

"Everson provides us with a quality target player with speed, size and great technical ability which we have been lacking up front. We don't expect big things from him this season, but as he learns the MISL game we believe he will make a significant offensive contribution to our team. He was pursued by several MISL clubs and we are pleased that he has come to terms with Cleveland," commented Garofolo.

Maciel, a 25-year old native of Londrina, Brazil will make his Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) and Cleveland Force debut this season although Everson did not travel with the team this week nor is he expected to play this weekend. Maciel recently finished his first season with the Connecticut Academica of the Premier Arena Soccer League (PASL). Everson was selected to the PASL East All-Star team that defeated the West All-Stars by a final score of 13-4 before the MISL All-Star Game on February 29. This season for the Academica, Maciel recorded 15 goals and added 8 assists for a total of 23 points.

Everson is a graduate of Quinnipiac (Conn.) College. While at Quinnipiac, Maciel recorded 31 goals and added 12 assists in two seasons. In his final season, Everson ranked among the leaders in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I, as he was third in goals per game (1.06) and sixth in points per game (2.38). Maciel ranks among the leaders all-time at Quinnipiac as he is tied for second in goals scored (31) and third in career points (74). Everson was named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Player of the Year and the Quinnipiac Male Athlete of the Year during the 2001-02 season. He was also named to the All-NEC First Team on two occasions.

Prior to Quinnipiac, Maciel played six years for the Londrina Sport Club in Brazil. Everson was the captain for four seasons and recorded 85 goals in his six seasons. He was a member of teams that won First Dourados Tournament, Foz do Iguacu Juniors, Monte Alegre de Minas Tournament and the Parna State Cup.

Maciel and his wife Isabella reside in New Haven, Connecticut.
