KiXX ink defender Edgar Bartolomeu

Philadelphia, PA, March 11, 2004 â Philadelphia KiXX Executive Vice President/General Manager Greg Bibb announced today the team has agreed to terms with defender Edgar Bartolomeu for the remainder of the 2003-04 campaign. Bartolomeu, who previously spent two seasons with the KiXX, returns after competing one season with the New York/New Jersey MetroStars of Major League Soccer (MLS).
"We are excited to have Edgar return to the Philadelphia," Bibb stated. "Edgar brings speed, skill and experience to our backline. He is an international caliber player who should give our club a big boost as we move through the final portion of our regular season and as we prepare for the MISL Playoffs."
Bartolomeu, listed at 5'10", 145 pounds, began his professional indoor career with the Buffalo Blizzard of the National Professional Soccer League (NPSL) in 2000. Following the 2000-01 campaign, in which he recorded five points (pair of two-point goals, assist) and 17 blocks, the native of Angola was selected in the fifth round of the 2001 NPSL Dispersal Draft by the Philadelphia KiXX. Bartolomeu accumulated 27 points and 63 blocks over the next two seasons with Philadelphia and was a featured member of the 2002 Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Championship team.
The 26-year old defender registered 1,000 minutes and one block in 11 starts, 13 total games, with the MetroStars in 2003. He was waived prior to the 2004 campaign.
Bartolomeu is scheduled to make his return indoors this Sunday, March 14, when the KiXX travel to the Monterrey, Mexico to battle the Fury at the Monterrey Arena. The contest is slated to kick-off at 7:35 pm ET. The team remains on the road to square-off against the Cleveland Force on Friday, March 19, before returning to the Wachovia Spectrum on Saturday, March 20 to entertain the St. Louis Steamers. The KiXX-Force meeting is slated for a 7:35 pm ET kick-off at the Convocation Center at CSU, while the Philadelphia-St. Louis matchup will start at 7:05 pm ET.
