
Force Falls To San Diego For First Time In Two Seasons

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. - The Cleveland Force traveled to San Diego, California tonight and was defeated by the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Western Division San Diego Sockers by a final score of 6-4 at the San Diego Sports Arena. The game the final regular season meeting between the two teams.
With the loss, the Force fell to 9-20 overall, 5-6 versus Western Division opponents, 3-1 in the season series and 4-11 on the road. With the victory, San Diego snapped a four game losing skid and won their first game against Cleveland in two seasons (1-8) as well as improving to 12-17 overall and 3-6 versus Eastern Division opponents and 10-5 at home.
The two teams battled to a scoreless first quarter. The scoreless first quarter marked the second time this season that both teams failed to score a goal with the first scoreless first quarter coming on December 27 at the Convocation Center at Cleveland State University.
The Sockers broke the scoreless tie and opened the scoring (0-1) when Paul Dougherty scored the goal on the header off the cross from Dan Antoniuk at 1:21 of the second quarter. San Diego added to its lead (0-2) when Mariano Bollella found the back of the net off the pass from Dougherty at 5:29. The Force cut into the lead and scored its first goal (1-2) when John Ball knocked in the rebound shot of Lee Edgerton at 13:14.
The Sockers opened the second half scoring and added to their lead (1-3) when Mauricio Alegre found the back of the net off the assist from David Beltran at 2:18 of the third quarter. San Diego kept the scoring attack going (1-4) when Sean Bowers scored the power play goal off the assist for Paul Wright at 4:21. Cleveland ended a 2-0 run by the Sockers (2-4) when Hector Marinaro scored the restart goal off the pass from Omid Namazi at 5:38.
San Diego opened the final period scoring (2-5) when Kevin Legg scored the goal off the second assist of the game for Wright at 5:00 of the fourth quarter. The Sockers took their largest lead of the game (2-6) when Wright came off the bench after serving the two-minute penalty and took the long outlet from Beltran and scored his first goal of the game while giving Beltran his second assist of the half at 8:31. The Force cut into the lead (3-6) when Braeden Cloutier scored the restart goal off the pass from Marinaro at 11:54. Cleveland got the final goal of the game (4-6) when Namazi scored the power play off the assist from Force sixth attacker Marinaro at 13:25.
The Force will next travel to Kansas City, Missouri to take on the MISL Central Division Kansas City Comets on Saturday, March 13 at the Kemper Arena.
