
Force set to Storm into playoff

CLEVELAND, OHIO -The Cleveland Force will look to secure its ticket into the 2005 MISL Playoffs this weekend when the team kicks off a two-game weekend on Friday, April 15 as they play host to the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) expansion Chicago Storm at the Wolstein Convocation Center. Cleveland's magic number is down to one game to secure a playoff berth for the 20th time in the 26-years of the franchise. A Force win on Friday night would secure the team's playoff berth for the third straight season.
The games can be heard live on WHK 1420 AM or WHKW 1440 AM in Warren/Youngstown or live worldwide on the Internet at www.thesportsking.com. And is scheduled to start at 7:35 pm.
Cleveland enters the game with a record of 19-16 overall, 10-8 at home and 9-8 on the road. The Force played its busiest week of action last week and posted record 2-1 in those three games, including two road wins over the Kansas City Comets and the St. Louis Steamers. Cleveland fell to the Baltimore Blast at home for its lone loss last week. The Force currently is in third place in the MISL Standings one game behind the Philadelphia KiXX for second place and three games behind the Milwaukee Wave for first while leading the Steamers in fourth place by one game.
Chicago comes into the contest with a record of 17-19 overall, 12-7 at home and 5-12 on the road. The Storm defeated St. Louis by a final score of 7-2 last Saturday night at the UIC-Pavilion in the team's lone game last week. Chicago currently is in fifth place and trails the Steamers by 1.5 games for the fourth and final playoff spot.
The game between Cleveland and the Storm will mark the seventh and final regular season meeting this season between the two squads. The contest will mark the 52nd meeting between the two squads with the Force holding a 33-18 advantage. Cleveland leads the season series 4-2 after positing victories in the last two meetings, including a 5-4 decision on March 19th at the UIC-Pavilion.
In the season series, the Force is led by forward and team captain John Ball with 15 points on 10 goals and five assists. Forward Chris Handsor holds second place with eight goals and one assist for nine points. Defender Rene Rivas is third in the series with seven points on three goals and four assists.
Chicago is led by midfielder Matthew Stewart and forward Novica "Novi" Marojevic in the season series with seven points apiece. Stewart has been credited with five goals and two assists while Marojevic has tallied four goals and three assists. Forward Byron Alvarez is second in the series with six points on five goals and one assist.
