
Force selects six players in MISL Amateur Draft

ST. LOUIS, MO. â The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) held its annual Amateur Draft today as a part of the 2004 MISL All-Star Weekend Festivities. Cleveland Force President & General Manager Paul Garofolo and Head Coach Andy Schmetzer announced that the team has selected six players in today's draft.
With the territorial selection and 7th overall pick, Cleveland selected 5-9 forward Kirk Harwat out of the University of Akron. Harwat, a native of North Royalton and a graduate of North Royalton High School, recorded 18 goals and added nine assists for a total of 45 points in two seasons at Akron. He was selected first-team Mid-American Conference (MAC) on two occasions and the MAC Newcomer of the Year in 2002. Before attending Akron, Harwat played two seasons at Ashland University where he tallied 34 goals and added 15 assists for a total of 83 points. While at North Royalton, Kirk was a Cleveland Plain Dealer All-Star, first team All-Ohio and team captain in his senior season.
In the first round, the Force acquired the 14th overall selection from the Kansas City Comets and took 5-7 forward Tim O'Neill out of St. John's (Pa.) University. O'Neill was a member of the NCAA National Runner-Up squad that fell to Indiana University 2-1 in the NCAA Championship game. Tim ended his career with the Red Storm with three goals and six assists for a total of 12 points in three seasons.
With its third overall selection and second first round pick (16th selection), Cleveland selected Ian Pilarski, a 5-9 midfielder, out of Cornell (N.Y.) University. Pilarski was selected by the Chicago Fire in the 2004 Major League Soccer (MLS) Superdraft in the fifth round and the 49th overall selection. While at Cornell, Ian recorded two goals and added 15 assists for a total of 19 points. In addition, he ranks fourth all-time in Big Red history in assists. Pilarski was named All-Ivy League on three occasions. Ian helped the Cape Cod Crusaders in the Premier Development League to back-to-back championships in 2001 and 2002.
In the second round, the Force used the 25th overall selection to take Siad Ali, a 6-1 forward, the third selection in the past two seasons for the Force out of Robert Morris College in Pennsylvania. Ali finished his senior season with 13 goals and four assists for a total of 30 points. He led the Northeast Conference in goals (13), scoring (30 points) and shots (58). In addition, Ali was selected first-team All-NEC on two occasions. Siad finished his career ranked sixth all-time at Robert Morris in goals with 24 and fourth all-time in goals in a season with 13.
With the third round selection (34th pick), Cleveland selected Oskar Tilly, a native of Karlstad, Sweden, out of Long Island (N.Y.) University in New York. Tilly, a 5-8 midfield/forward, recorded 27 goals and added 18 assists for a total of 72 points in three seasons. In his career, Oskar was an All-Northeast Conference (NEC) selection on three occasions as well as a NEC Player of the Week on four occasions.
In the fourth and final round (43rd pick), the Force selected x-x forward Neil Krause out of Boston College. Krause played three seasons at Boston College after transferring from Assumption (Mass.) College. In three seasons for the Eagles, Neil recorded 19 goals and added 10 assists for a total of 48 points. In one season at Assumption, Krause tallied 16 goals and two assists for a total of 34 points.
