Cleveland Force News Release
CLEVELAND, OHIO- Cleveland Force All-Star forward Hector Marinaro has opted to not play in the 2003 Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) All-Star Game in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on March 9th from the Bradley Center.
Marinaro, who was voted to make his 14th All-Star appearance and was scheduled to start, has opted to give up his position in this year's All-Star Game due to his lingering head injury that has kept him out of action since his last game on January 11th. Hector will make an All-Star appearance, when he will join Head Coach Andy Schmetzer on the bench to serve as an assistant coach for the Eastern Conference squad.
Marinaro will be replaced on the Eastern Conference roster by Philadelphia KiXX midfielder Kevin Sloan.
Marinaro, the all-time leading scorer in All-Star Game history with 46 points, was slated to start along side Harrisburg Heat forward David Bascome and Philadelphia KiXX forward and 2002 All-Star Game Most Valuable Player (MVP) Joel Shanker. Hector is among the All-Star Game leaders as he has posted 18 assists and 13 two-point goals, which ranks him first and tied for second respectively
Sloan will make the third All-Star appearance of his career. The 37-year-old forward is Philadelphia's second-leading scorer this season with 21 goals and 49 points (20th in the League) in 20 games. On December 8 against Dallas, Sloan became the 12th man in League history to score 1,000 points, and has registered 1,005 career points entering the week.
