Force garners two MISL weekly honors

CLEVELAND, OHIO- Cleveland Force defender Matt Johnson and goalkeeper Jim Larkin were each honored today by the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) with two of the three League's Player of the Week accolades for the seven-day period ending February 6. Johnson received his first Defender of the Week honor while Larkin was tabbed as the Goalkeeper of the Week for the third time.

Johnson blocked seven shots and scored two points in two games over the weekend. On Friday, the 28-year-old anchored a Cleveland defense that held the Kansas City Comets off the board for 51 minutes, finishing with a game-high five blocks. Johnson also added a goal (his first with Cleveland) and an assist in the contest. The native of St. Paul, MN, followed up with another strong effort in the Force's 7-6 double-overtime defeat in Philadelphia on Saturday, recording two rejections. In his first seven games with the Force, Johnson has scored three points (goal, two assists) and blocked 10 shots. This is his first weekly award of the season.

Larkin recorded 39 saves on 49 shots (.813 save percentage) and a 3.79 goals against average in two games last week. Jim came close to a shutout on Friday, holding the Kansas City Comets scoreless for over three quarters and finishing with 21 saves on 23 shots in a 9-2 victory. On Saturday, the 29-year-old was solid for over 82 minutes, making 18 saves in a 7-6 double-overtime loss to the Philadelphia KiXX. Larkin, a three-time All-Star, is now fifth in the league with a 5.28 goals against average, second in saves with 249, and third in save percentage at .739.

Cleveland will return home on Friday, February 11 in the first game of a home and home weekend series with the Kansas City Comets at the Wolstein Convocation Center. The game can be heard live on WHK 1420 AM in Cleveland as well as 1440 AM in Warren/Youngstown or worldwide on the Internet at www.thesportsking.com starting at 7:35 p.m.
