Force Falls To Wave In Overtime

CLEVELAND, OHIO – The Cleveland Force played its annual School Day Game this morning and fell to the visiting Milwaukee Wave, 10-8 in overtime, in a Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) game at the Convocation Center at Cleveland State University. The game marked the first overtime game of the season for the Force.

With the loss, Cleveland fell to 12-13 overall, 7-7 versus Western Conference opponents and 8-4 at home. With the win, Milwaukee improved to 21-5 overall and 3-1 in the season series and won its ninth straight game.

The Wave opened the scoring (0-2) when Greg Howes scored a two-point goal off the pass from Todd Dusosky at 7:48 of the first quarter.

The Force tied the game (2-2) when Chris Stathopoulos scored a two-point goal through the legs of Milwaukee goalkeeper Victor Nogueira off the assist from John Ball at 5:25 of the second quarter. Cleveland took its first lead of the game (4-2) when Ball scored a two-point goal to the lower right corner off the first assist of the season for goalkeeper Otto Orf at 10:07. The Force added to their lead (6-2) when Giuliano Oliviero scored a two-point power play goal off the cross from Nevio Pizzolitto at 11:34.

The Wave snapped a 6-0 run by Cleveland (6-4) when Howes scored his second goal of the game off the cross from Lovelace Ackah at 8:39 of the third quarter. Milwaukee tied the game for the second time (6-6) when Martin Dugas scored a two-point restart goal off the pass from Joe Reiniger at 12:31.

The Force regained the lead (8-6) when Stathopoulos scored his second goal of the game off the assist from Anthony Maher at 2:00 of the final quarter. With the goal, Stathopoulos scored his 300th career point. The Wave tied the game for the third time (8-8) when Sipho Sibiya scored a two-point restart goal off the pass from Howes at 2:57.

Milwaukee won the game in overtime (10-8) when Reiniger scored the game-winning goal off the rebound shot of Todd Dusosky at 8:03.

Cleveland will next play host to the Baltimore Blast in a MISL Eastern Conference game on Saturday, February 8th at the Convocation Center at CSU.
