Kansas City Comets News Release
KANSAS CITY, MO -- Dino Delevski, Alex Zotinca, Jeff Davis and Nino DaSilva were honored as members of the MISL's Western Conference All-Star team, the league announced today. Overall, 16 players were chosen for the Western Conference from the Comets, the Milwaukee Wave, Dallas Sidekicks and San Diego Sockers.
The four will represent the Comets in the All-Star Game, scheduled for 1:05 PM on March 9, in Milwaukee, WI. While there, they will take on the Eastern Conference All-Stars, made up of players from the Harrisburg Heat, Baltimore Blast, Philadelphia Kixx and Cleveland Force. Delevski, as a forward, and Zotinca, as a defender, have also been chosen to start for the Western Conference.
Delevski is the only Comet making a return appearance to the All-Star game. This is Delevski's third consecutive All-Star nod. The reigning league MVP and Spalding scoring champion was also the MVP of his first All-Star game, held in 2001 in Buffalo. He has been named MISL Offensive Player of the Week four times this season.
Zotinca, a three-year veteran of the league, is making his first All-Star appearance. A native of Sibiu, Romania, Zotinca was named to the All-Rookie squad in 2001, and was the highest-scoring defender in the league last season. He is currently fifth on the squad for total points, with 38, and second for blocks, with 35.
DaSilva is also making his first All-Star appearance. The 2001 Rookie of the Year finished last season with 115 points. He is currently second the Comets squad and fifth overall in the league for total points, with 69 scored in 21 games. Known as a forceful and emotional player, he also leads the league for ejections, with three, and holds the league record for fouls in a season, with 167. He has been named Player of the Week twice this year.
Davis is a ten-year veteran of both the MISL and the WISL, who is making his first All-Star appearance. The team leader in blocks, Davis also set the new team record for single-game blocks this year, with eight. He was also named Defensive Player of the Week on Jan. 20, his first nod of the season.
