Force Falls To Kansas City In Overtime

CLEVELAND, OHIO - The Cleveland Force played host and was defeated by the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Western Division Kansas City Comets tonight by a final score of 8-7 in overtime at the Convocation Center at Cleveland State University.

With the loss, the Force fell to 3-4 overall, 0-1 versus Western Division opponents, 0-1 in the season series, 0-2 in overtime games and 2-2 at home. With the win, the Comets improved to 2-3 overall and 1-0 versus Eastern Division opponents and 2-2 on the road.

Kansas City opened the scoring (0-1) when forward Dino Delevski buried the restart goal from the penalty kick area at 9:15 of the opening period. The Force quickly responded when forward Adauto Neto took a pass from defender John Ball at the midfield stripe and beat on Comet defender and nailed the goal in the lower left corner at 12:14. Kansas City regained the (1-2) when forward James Koehler found the back of the net off the assist from defender Casey Barton at 14:37.

Cleveland wasted no time in tying the game for the second time and opening the second quarter scoring (2-2) when forward Joel Bailey played a heel pass back to himself and scorched a shot to the upper ninety at 22 seconds. The Force took their first lead of the game (3-2) when forward Antonio Sutton ran across the goal mouth and knocked in the pass from defender Rene Rivas on the restart at 59 seconds. Cleveland kept up the scoring attack (4-2) when midfielder scored the power play goal than went right under the cross bar off the second assist of the game for Rivas at 4:05. The Force added to their lead (5-2) when midfielder Gary DePalma buried a shot from the top of the goal box off the cross from defender John Ball at 7:38. The Comets snapped a 4-0 run by Cleveland (5-3) when Jonny Steele scored the unassisted goal at 10:47. The five goals in the first half and the four goals in the second quarter are season-highs for the Force.

Kansas City cut the lead to one (5-4) when Delevski scored the shoot out and power play goal at 5:25 of the third quarter. Cleveland ended a 2-0 run by the Comets (6-4) when Neto scored his second goal of the game off the pass from the defensive end from DePalma at 12:34. Kansas City cut back into the lead (6-5) when Justin Evans scored the goal off the assist from Miodrag Djerislio at 14:55.

The Force opened the fourth quarter scoring (7-5) when Aristodemo and Rivas hooked up for the second time on the night for the score both coming on the power play. The Cleveland power play goal came at 9:37 of the fourth. The Comets cut back into the lead (7-6) when Anthony Maher was left all alone on the back post and tapped in the goal off the pass from Evans at 10:55. Kansas City tied the game for the third time (7-7) when Steele buried a shot from beyond the yellow line for the score at 11:28.

The Comets won the game in overtime (7-8) when Casey Stevens stole the ball as the Force power play came to an end and notched the game winner at 4:58 of the extra session.

Cleveland will the second game of back-to-back home weekend games tomorrow night Saturday, December when it play hosts to the two-time defending MISL Champion and Eastern Division Baltimore Blast.
