Force Falls To Defending Champs

CLEVELAND, OHIO - The Cleveland Force played host and was defeated by the two- time defending Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Champion Baltimore Blast by a final score of 8-6 at the Convocation Center at Cleveland State University.

With the loss, the Force dropped its ninth straight game, including the playoffs versus Baltimore and to 6-9 overall, 0-2 in the season series and 4-5 at home. With the win, the Blast won their third straight and improved to 9-9 overall and 3-5 on the road, including two win in Cleveland.

The Force opened the scoring (1-0) when forward Joel Bailey redirected the pass from Adauto Neto into the goal at 3:51 of the first quarter. The Blast tied the game back up (1-1) when Tarik Walker scored the goal off the pass from Giuliano Celenza at 10:59. Baltimore took their first lead (1-2) after Carlos "Chile" Farias missed the penalty shot and Cleveland goalkeeper Jim Larkin made the save. After the outlet pass, the Blast stole the ball and Farias knocked in the power play goal off the assist from Scott Schweitzer at 13:55. Baltimore added to its lead (1-3) when Machel Milwood buried a shot at the back post off the cross from Lee Tschantret at 13:55.

The Force cut the lead to one and opened the second quarter scoring (2-3) when defender and team captain John Ball took the pass from forward Antonio off the boards and buried the shot into the top of the goal at 13:49.

Baltimore added to its lead (2-4) when David Bascome scored the goal off the assist from Farias at 3:08 of the third quarter. The Blast kept up the scoring attack (2-5) when John Ball misplayed the clear attempt and it went into the goal giving Tschantret credit for the score being the last Baltimore player to touch the ball at 3:43. Cleveland cut into the lead (4-5) when Bailey took on four Baltimore defenders and scored his second goal of the game at 13:24.

The Force cut the lead to one (4-5) when defender Wendell Regis redirected a shot by midfielder Robbie Aristodemo off his chest into the back of the net at 5:28 of the fourth quarter. The goal marked the second goal in two games for Regis and the second assist in two games for Aristodemo. Cleveland tied the game for the second time (5-5) when Ball flicked the ball with the outside of his foot over Baltimore goalkeeper Brian Rowland for his second goal of the game off the assist from defender Matt Johnson at 6:45. The assist was the first for Johnson as a member of the Force. The Blast regained the lead (5-6) when Bascome scored his second goal of the game off the second assist of the game for Farias at 9:17. Baltimore added to their lead (5-7) when Milwood scored his second goal of the game off the feed from P.J. Wakefield at 11:28. Cleveland cut into the lead (6-7) when Kyt Selaidopoulos found the back of the net off the assist from Ball with the sixth attacker Aristodemo on at 12:03. The Blast sealed the game (6-8) when Tschantret scored the short handed and empty net goal against the sixth attacker at 14:37.

The Force will hit the road for the first time in 2005 when they travel to the Windy City to take on the MILS Chicago Storm on Friday, January 21.
