Milwaukee Wave News Release
MILWAUKEE (Sunday, April 17, 2005) â The Milwaukee Wave was defeated by the Cleveland Force 8-7 in overtime in front of a crowd of 4,176 at the U.S. Cellular Arena. The Wave rebounded from a two goal deficit in the final two minutes to send the game into overtime; however, a tripping penalty on Greg Howes put the Force on the man advantage four minutes into the extra session. The Force capitalized as Genoni Martinez fed John Ball for the game-winner at 11:05 of the overtime period.
The Milwaukee Wave got on the board first with a goal by Greg Howes at 3:14 of the opening period. Todd Dusosky provided the assist for the shot past a helpless Jim Larkin, in goal for the Cleveland Force. Teaming up again, Dusosky took the assist from Howes for the score approximately three minutes later. Cleveland then got on the board (8:24) with an unassisted goal by Antonio Sutton past Wave keeper Nick Vorberg. The Force collected a power-play goal by John Ball (13:16) following a Wave penalty, and tied things up at two to end the first period.
Marcelo Fontana and Wave Captain Michael King took to the field for Milwaukee's third goal to begin the second period at 1:43. King passed it off to an open Fontana, who blasted the shot into the back of the net past several Force defenders. Milwaukee then took its turn to take advantage of the power-play, when Todd Dusosky found Greg Howes close to the net for the quick goal at 5:45. Several minutes later, the Force brought the score within one as Adauto Neto got the goal (12:16) off the assist from Ball.
Midway through the third quarter, Cleveland's Josh Timbers fed the ball to Neto for the tying goal at 6:12. The rest of the period was a defensive battle as neither team was able to convert a goal, keeping the game tied up at 4-4 heading into the final period.
Cleveland broke the tie at the one-minute mark of the final quarter, as Kyt Selaidopoulos positioned himself close to the goal to kick the ball into the back of the net. The Force climbed ahead of the Wave with a goal from Aaron Susi, his first of the day, off the assist from Neto at 7:53. Milwaukee answered back with a goal from Angel Rivillo, off the assist from Giuliano Oliviero. Cleveland came back with another goal by Susi at 11:49 to take a 6-4 lead.
The Wave fought back as King drilled the ball past Larkin (12:21), off the assist from Howes. Answering back once again, Milwaukee tied the match at 7-7 off a goal by Rivillo, sending the game into overtime.
The teams battled back-and-forth in the extra session, until a tripping penalty on Howes gave the Force the man advantage. Martinez found Ball on the left side of the low post for the game-winner at 11:05. Today's contest marks the third time the Force and Wave have needed an extra period to determine a winner - all three games have been on the Wave's home turf.
The Wave travels to Cleveland 4/23 to complete the season series with the Force before coming back home to wrap up the season versus the Baltimore Blast on Sunday, April 24 at 1 p.m. This game symbolizes Fan Appreciation Day, in which Wave fans have the chance to win several great prizes: a hot tub courtesy of Master Spas, Wisconsin Dells getaway packages, Piggly Wiggly gift cards and much, much more.
