Force Crashes Wave On Milwaukee In Overtime Victory, 8-7

MILWAUKEE, WIS. - The Cleveland Force used three power play goals to defeat the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) first place Milwaukee Wave by a final score of 8-7 in overtime at the U.S. Cellular Arena. The game marked the third overtime game of the season between the Force and Wave with Cleveland winning two of three while all three extra session games were in Milwaukee.

With the victory, the Force won their third straight game and took over sole possession of second place while moving within two games of the Wave for first place. Cleveland improved to 21-16 overall, 10-8 on the road, 3-5 in overtime games, 2-2 versus the Wave this season and 20-28 all-time versus Milwaukee teams. With the loss, the Wave snapped their two game winning streak and fell to 23-14 overall and 13-6 at home.

Milwaukee opened the scoring (0-1) when forward and MISL leading scorer Greg Howes played a perfect two man game with forward Todd Dusosky as the Greg found a streaking Todd who ten passed it right back to Howes who tapped in the score at 3;14 of the first quarter. The Wave added to their lead (0-2) when Todd Dusosky took the rebound shot of Howes off the boards and nailed a shot home from beyond the yellow line at 6:33. Cleveland got on the board and cut into the lead (1-2) when forward Antonio Sutton stole a pass from Milwaukee midfielder Johnny Torres and buried an unassisted goal from the top of the arch at 8:24. The Force evened the score (2-2) when defender Genoni Martinez connected on the power play after forward and team captain John Ball hit a shot that bounced back out to Martinez hit a low liner past Wave goalkeeper Nick Vorberg at 13:16.

Milwaukee regained the lead (3-2) when midfielder Marcello Fontana took a pass from forward Michael King and then chipped the ball up to himself and hit the spinning volley shot into the net while at 1:43 of the second quarter. The Wave jumped back out to a two-goal advantage (2-4) when Howes scored his second goal of the game on the power play as Cleveland defender Josh Timbers knocked down an initial shot in the box that went right to Greg who banged a shot on the ground for the tally at 5:45. The Force cut into the lead (3-4) on the counter attack when Ball sent in a pass off the boards to forward Adauto Neto who tapped in the pass for the score at 12:16.

Cleveland tied the game for the second time (4-4) when Neto scored his second goal of the game off the cross from defender Josh Timbers at 6:12 of the third quarter.

The Force took their first lead of the game (5-4) when midfielder Kyt Selaidopoulos stole the ball and hit a shot that snuck past Vorberg at the far post just one minute into the fourth quarter. Cleveland jumped out to its largest lead of the game (6-4) when forward Aaron Susi scored the power play goal with just five seconds left in the man advantage off the assist from Neto at 7:53. Milwaukee cut into the lead and snapped a 4-0 run by the Force (6-5) when midfielder Angel Rivillo knocked home the power play goal off the cross from forward Giuliano Oliviero at 9:58. Cleveland went back up by two (7-5) when Susi scored his second goal of the game on the restart off the pass from Martinez at 11:49. The Wave responded with the sixth attacker on (7-6) when King tapped in the rebound shot of Howes at 12:21. Milwaukee tied the game for the third time (7-7) when Todd Dusosky scored his second goal of the game with the sixth attacker on off the rebound shot of Rivillo at 13:56.

The Force won the game in overtime (8-7) when Ball scored the power play goal off the assist from Martinez at 11:05 of the extra session.

Cleveland will hit the road for the final time in the regular season on Friday, April 22 when the team travels to the Charm City to take on the two-time defending MISL Champion Baltimore Blast at the 1st Mariner Arena.
