Force Blasts Past Baltimore For Overtime Victory, 7-6

BALTIMORE, MD. - The Cleveland Force used their only power play goal to defeat the two-time defending Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Champion Baltimore Blast by a final score of 7-6 in overtime at the 1st Mariner Arena.

With the win, the Force won their fourth straight game and improved to 22-16 overall, 11-8 on the road, 4-5 in overtime games, 4-4 versus the Blast this season and 67-70 all-time versus Baltimore teams. With the loss, the Blast, who will not qualify for the playoffs for the first time since the 1998-99 season, fell to 15-23 overall and 9-11 at home.

Baltimore opened the scoring (0-1) when forward David Bascome scored the goal off the assist from forward Lee Tschantret at 3:11 of the first quarter. Cleveland tied the game (2-2) when forward and Cleveland native Allen Eller stole the ball and scored the unassisted goal at 3:44.

The Force took their first lead of the game (2-1) when forward and team captain John Ball chest trapped the pass from defender Josh Timbers turned around and buried a 30-foot shot into the upper right corner at 6:30 of the second quarter. The Blast evened the scored (2-2) when Bascome connected on the restart opportunity for his second score of the game off the pass from defender Danny Kelly at 8:54. Baltimore regained the lead (2-3) when Tschantret scored the power play goal at 9:49. Cleveland tied the game for the third time (3-3) when forward Antonio Sutton tapped in the goal off the cross from forward Aaron Susi who took the pass from defender Rene Rivas after playing it out of the Force defensive end at 14:07.

The Force regained the lead (4-3) when defender Genoni Martinez scored the unassisted goal at 1:37 of the third quarter. The Blast evened the score for the fourth time (4-4) when Tschantret scored his second goal of the game off the feed from midfielder P.J. Wakefield at 5:51. Baltimore regained the lead (4-5) when defender Steve Fell found the back of the net off the assist from defender Wendell Regis at 7:22. Cleveland quickly tied the game for the fifth time (5-5) when Rivas drilled a shot from the yellow line for the unassisted goal at 7:33. The Force regained the lead (6-5) when Ball played the ball off the boards back to himself and then beat Blast goalkeeper Sagu and scored the empty net unassisted goal at 11:52.

Baltimore tied the game for the sixth time (6-6) when Tschantret converted the power play for his third goal of the game off the cross from Bascome at 3:46 of the fourth quarter.

Cleveland won the game for the second straight time in overtime (7-6) when forward Adauto Neto buried the game-winner off the cross from Susi at 1:08 of the extra session.

Cleveland will conclude the regular season on Saturday, April 23 as it will play host to the first place Milwaukee Wave on Fan Appreciation Night at the Wolstein Convocation Center.
