Force acquires draft picks in trade
March 19, 2004 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
Cleveland Force News Release
CLEVELAND, OHIO- Cleveland Force President and General Manager Paul Garofolo announced today that the team has traded the rights to Renato Pereira to the Monterrey Fury for Monterrey's 2005 and 2006 Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Amateur Draft selections in the first through fourth rounds.
"This transaction provides us with tremendous flexibility over the next two drafts which we believe will be very deep with talent for the MISL. This will allow us the opportunity to select those players which we are excited to draft without as much concern over their availability," stated Garofolo.
Cleveland will now be able to select nine total players in each of the next two MISL Amateur Drafts while the Fury will be left with just their territorial selection for the next two seasons.
Pereira was acquired by the Force in the sixth round of the Harrisburg Heat Dispersal Draft held this past July but never reported to Cleveland. Renato appeared in just eight games for the Heat during the 2002-03 season and recorded four two-point goals for a total of eight points.
In other news, the Force has placed midfielder Adam Campellone and defender Fred DeGand on the inactive list. The inactive list will keep a player out a minimum of five games or 15 days but does not limit the time he may remain on the list. Campellone, who is out with mononucleosis was placed on the list effective March 4 and DeGand, who is out with a second degree MCL knee injury, was placed on the list effective March 9.
